Sunlight
An Allegorical Poem by Kim Williams, M.Div.
Sunlight
The sky has an order
older than the clicks of time
Stars rise and burn
Then
Each in their own time
Click
They fall…always
But once a little star
refused to fall
Click – “no.”
The heavens paused
turned and shouted
“You cannot!”
Twinkling indignation assembled
Justice, the Moon was called
“She refuses to fall!”
“It’s her turn, after all!”
Moon slid over to his throne
frowned and demanded
“You! Insolent and small, fall!”
Click... “no.”
The heavens shook as
stars and Moon
Gasped, then
Silence
Click…
Moon announced,
“Well, then, I’ll take this to the Sun”
The Sun did not speak often
she sat at the center
and let everything orbit
That was enough
But
When she heard the judgement
of the heavens
She turned
the stars grinned, the Moon nodded
She turned.
Her light
fell full
hot
on the little star
who would not fall
Click…
Nobody moved
...
Then the Sun
laughed.
Click…
It shook the heavens.
It split the dark
And the little star
Was pulled toward it
and the Sun
flung her.
Out.
Past the edge.
Into the blackest black
that had no name...
Click...
She landed.
Pulsed.
Grew.
Gravity.
And the unknown darkness,
which had never known light,
began to see
Its own Sun
Click...
